We Are Not Currently Offering Pet Transport Services
At Pacific Tails, we are passionate about helping families relocate their beloved pets safely and stress-free — whether across the Tasman or around the globe. However, at this time, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer international pet transport services.
Why?
Air New Zealand is the most important airline in New Zealand that transports pets on domestic and international routes.
Unfortunately, they have a closed approval system for pet transport agents. To become an “approved agent,” we are required to show a track record of completed bookings with them — but we cannot access their system or book flights without being approved first. This circular requirement effectively locks out new providers, including us.
As a result, despite meeting all MPI (Ministry for Primary Industries) approval standards and being fully prepared to handle complex international pet relocations — including rare destinations and less commonly transported animals like birds — we are currently not permitted to make bookings with Air New Zealand.
We are actively advocating for a fairer and more open process and have raised our concerns with the Commerce Commission, though they have so far declined to investigate. We request a Review of this decision.
What You Can Do
In the meantime, we continue to offer:
• Local pet taxi services
• Pre-flight and post-arrival boarding and care
• Advice and preparation for international pet moves and recommendation of approved Airline Transporter.
